Back in the spring, we launched a competition offering one lucky small business owner a brand-new website, completely free of charge. Today, we’re delighted to share an update on how our winner, Sarah from a lovely little bakery in the Cotswolds, has been getting on since her site went live.

A Quick Recap

Sarah’s Sweet Treats had been relying on a Facebook page and word of mouth for years. Whilst her cakes were the talk of the village, she had no proper online presence to match. When she won our competition, she was thrilled but, understandably, a little nervous about what a “proper website” might mean for her small operation.

The Transformation

Our design team worked closely with Sarah to create a site that reflected the warmth and charm of her bakery. We focused on:

  • A clean, mobile-friendly design showcasing her seasonal menus
  • An easy-to-use online ordering system for local deliveries
  • A blog section where Sarah shares recipes and behind-the-scenes stories
  • Search engine optimisation so local customers could actually find her

The Results So Far

Since launching in the summer, Sarah has reported a genuine uplift in enquiries and orders. She’s particularly chuffed with how many new customers mention finding her through a simple Google search, rather than relying solely on existing customers sharing her details.

“I honestly didn’t think a website would make such a difference,” Sarah told us recently. “I’m getting orders from people two villages over who’d never have heard of me otherwise. It’s given me the confidence to think about expanding.”

Lessons Learned

Sarah’s journey highlights something we see time and again: many small business owners underestimate just how much a professional website can transform their prospects. It isn’t simply about having an online shop window; it’s about credibility, reach, and giving customers an easy way to engage with your business at any hour of the day.

We’ve also learned plenty from Sarah’s experience, particularly around how important it is to keep things simple for business owners who aren’t tech-savvy. Not everyone wants to fiddle about with complicated dashboards, and our ongoing support has been just as valuable to her as the initial build.

What’s Next for Sarah?

With her new website bedding in nicely, Sarah’s now considering adding an online shop for gift hampers ahead of the festive season. We’re chuffed to be helping her plan the next phase, proving that a good website isn’t a one-off project but something that can grow alongside your business.
